Doing God's business - by Deacon John (Sunday 8 am and 10 am) )

As Jesus rises from the dead, He promises us the best gift all – the promise of eternal life. That is God's business. God blesses us. God fills us with joy and peace. He fills us with love that only God can give. That's God's business and let that be our top priority in the new yea. Our priority should be doing God's business.

Why are you looking for me? - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

I understand the relief that Mary and Joseph felt when Jesus was missing, and they found him in the temple. Any parent can. But then the child Jesus continues to grow up and become a man as do ours. That we understand also.

Same spirit as shepherds - by Pastor Steve (Christmas Eve)

While we may sometimes miss the presence of Jesus in our life, He never misses the presence of us in His, which means that as we leave here this evening we leave with the same spirit as the shepherds, glorifying and praising God for all we have heard and seen as it has been made known to us on this holy night. Blessed and joyous Christmas to you all.

Greetings favored one - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 am)

Reflect on how every heart is to prepare Him room and for that work of reflection be reminded that the greeting given to Mary is given to us as well, "Greetings favored one, the Lord is with you." may the voice of the Lord who is with us guide our reflections, guide our hearts and guide our way.

My name is Mary - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

Mary you have nothing to fear. God has a surprise for you. You will become pregnant and give birth to a son and call his name Jesus. He will be great, be called Son of the Highest. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. He will rule Jacob's house forever, no end, ever, to his kingdom." I protested to the angel "But how? I've never slept with a man." Find the answer in this sermon!

They called the child Immanuel - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

The Lord your God is in your midst and He will exalt over you. This is loud singing, this is exaltation that God is amongst us. I looked up exaltation in the Thesaurus and got words like jubilation, ecstasy, euphoria. God the creator of heaven and earth, jubilant, ecstatic singing loudly simply because God is with god's beloved. And so yes, they called the child Immanuel.

Oh that they would see the blessings- by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

Oh that they would see the of the way of the Lord before they chose the wilderness way instead. And I wonder if we the church can better help newcomers to the way of Jesus so they know earlier and experience more fully the blessings that come with that way earlier on before they drift away from the church. For now here is some good news - good news for our heart, our life and our times in the wilderness. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low. And the crooked shall be made straight and the rough ways made smooth and all flesh shall see the salvation of our God through the message of the Lord, through the presence made flesh we are given the gift of hope, peace, guidance, renewal. The promise that God is with us in love. Oh that those who wander into the wilderness would see these blessings.

God's advertisement - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

John was God's advertisement. Rooted in the nation's past, his appearance in the desert caught the popular imagination. His message prepared the populace for the coming of One Greater. Get Ready! The contrary sign of John brought together historical significance and prophetic tradition. It also revealed God's activity. God was about to do something new, unique, different.

Be grounded - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

- Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that." And so Jesus says, "Be grounded in the promises I give. Be grounded in God's reign which is near. Be ready to respond as light." All of this is beyond us without the grace of God and so we pray this prayer from our worship book, "God Almighty, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: Grant us, we pray, to be grounded and settled in your truth by the coming of the Holy Spirit into our hearts. That which we know not, reveal; that which is wanting in us, fill up; that which we know, confirm; and then use us, we pray, as You will; but always to Your glory and the welfare of Your people through Jesus Christ, our Lord and savior. Amen."

We are His - by Deacon John (Saturday 4:30 PM)

He set his seal of ownership upon us and put His spirit in our hearts as a deposit guaranteeing what is to come. Yes, He comes to us as a baby in a manager. Yes, He grows up and he dies on the cross. And, yes He rises for us and our sins are forgiven through this little baby, in this little manger, in this little town called Bethlehem.

God of victory - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

Whatever wrong we are facing in our life, it is not more powerful than the God that holds us in love..

The truth - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

The truth is that because Jesus died on the cross for you and rose from the dead that you are holy. The truth is that because of Jesus Christ you are forgiven. The truth is that because of the work of the Son of God you are righteous in God's sight, you are perfect in his eyes, you are his dearly loved child. That is the truth.

Two masters - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

You cannot serve God and wealth. You can serve God and have wealth, but you can't serve them both. Therefore, Jesus tells us, "Do not be overly anxious about your life." These words are not addressed to the poor or those who cannot build up treasures in this life, but rather to those who are experiencing "not me" - lack of trust in God's faithfulness and an apathy to God's way and are using that plenty to accumulate "stuff." To gain status and feel more save and secure and even trying to add one more year to their life. Nothing can bring us more security than God's faithfulness.

God will take care of us- by Deacon John (Saturday 4:30 PM )

We have to look and see how God helps us, how God provides for us. Sometimes we don't see it. Sometimes we need to look for it. For if we look; we will certainly see it through our food, through our clothing, through our actions, and most certainly through the righteousness of Jesus Christ. First we must have the kingdom of God, then the righteousness of god and then God will take care of us.

Danger to the soul - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

Men need to be warned that there is more danger to the soul in pretending to a piety we have not got, than in merely having none at all. Jesus describes the opposite attitude and behavior. Love God with all your heart and you neighbor as yourself.

Enslaved by ourselves - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

Without God's intervention we are all hopelessly enslaved to ourselves and enslaved to sin. Without God's intervention we are condemned to live in bondage. Enslaved by sin and unable to liberate ourselves. Jesus said" Truly I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin" Sin entraps us. Sin holds us rendering us powerless to escape from its clutches. Consequently, try as we might we in our own strength are unable to overcome sin. In our natural unsaved state we are at the mercy of sin; powerless against it. Our only hope is in Christ Jesus, who can redeem us, setting us free from sin's penalty and power. We have redemption through Jesus' blood.

Being great is not about winning - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

Just about everything we encounter in our day to day life being great is about winning. But once again Jesus comes to us the morning at turns the way of the world right side up. Specifically Jesus comes to us to make it clear that God's criteria for greatness doesn't have to do with who wins the most but instead who serves the most.

We are to serve - by Deacon John (Saturday 4:30 PM )

Did He not serve us so we could go serve others? So remember, it is not about sitting at the right hand; it's not about sitting at the left hand; it's not about sitting up front or wearing the albs or stoles. It is about service - service to others as Jesus told us. Pretty plain! Pretty simple! We are to serve!

Generosity in giving - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

We are being invited this month to prayerfully consider the what of our offering. To prayerfully consider in light of our life circumstances, what generosity in giving will look like for each of us in the year 2019 so that, so that we can continue to glorify God and witness to the Gospel of our Lord Jesus through the community and ministry of the little corner of God's church called Hope.

Simplicity comes from the voice of Jesus inside - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

What stands in the way of our centering on Christ? Each of us will have his or her own answer to that question. When we are willing to set aside our devotion to that which hinders God's presence in our lives, we will be well on our way to the treasured simplicity we seek.

Into his arms - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

Jesus takes into his arms the excluded, the dismissed, the wrongly judged, the wrongly self-judged. Jesus takes into his arms all of us children of God who trust that in his arms is the only place to be. He takes us into his arms and affirms our worth, lays his hands on us and gives us his blessing of life and peace.

God does not want us to be lonely - by Deacon John (Saturday 4:30 PM )

God does not want us to be lonely. God wants us to be one with our spouse, the one flesh, and with Jesus Christ looking over us we have no fear. Jesus is with us always - in our marriage, in our work and in our play.

There is no greater - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

The mold of a disciple of Jesus is not limited. No pastor, bishop, leader is greater. Each of us has a mold as a disciple. No one mold is greater than another.

God can and does work through you and me. - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

God can and does work through people of every faith, and people of no faith. God is not limited to only Christian help, as Jesus makes clear in this gospel story. Jesus' tolerance is surprising to the disciples. It's also surprising to us modern day disciples. Like the original disciples, we want to limit who can do God's will. We want to check credentials and certify statements of faith and authorize missions. But not Jesus. Doing God's will is not confined to those who believe as we do.

If we don't ask, it leaves only silence - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

"They did not understand, but were afraid to ask." What happens when we do not understand Jesus' words and do not ask for help and explanation is that there is only silence as the message is lost. Maybe we should even ask the little children for they often understand Jesus better than we. This message ends with several interesting comments and questions from children and one inspiring statement, "Dear God, I don't ever feel alone since I found out about you."

Gods Work, Our Hands: A Shoebox Story - by Yuliya Shubina(Saturday 4:30 PM )

Today's message is from a very special guest, Yuliya Shubina, who tells her inspiring story about getting her shoebox from Samaritan's Purse when she was very young and how it changed her life. Hear how even a toothbrush or one item in that box can affect someone. Often this one box is life-changing changing, not just for the items but because of what the recipients learn about the gift of love of Jesus. Listening to Yuliya's story you will understand why Hope's shoebox ministry is so important.

Jesus, who do you say that we are? - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

Jesus would say, "You are my flock and even if the 99 were with me, if you were lost, I would come and find you." He would say, "You are my family and I have prepared a place for each of you in the reign of God and you will be with me there forever." He would continue, "You are my hands touching people with my love and inviting them to call my love home." Finally, He would tell us, "You are children of God, holy and precious in God's sight."

"Who do you say that I am?" - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

So I ask you, how do you see the mission of Jesus? I think Jesus summed it all up with his question "Who do you say that I am?" This is a question from 2000 years ago that we answer on a daily basis today. We answer that question in our prayers and indeed, even in the way we live our life.

Time to tell everyone - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

And so unlike that day that we visited 2000 years ago in today's gospel, all the ingredients are in, the picture is now complete. The picture includes the cross that makes know to us the depth of God's saving love for us, a love that holds us in God's care and keeping at all times through all things. The picture includes an empty tomb that promises that God's love for us is for all time; that promises us that we shall live in the house of the Lord forever. The picture is now complete. So unlike that time in the gospel when Christ asked that His healings be kept secret, that "tell no one" day of 2000 years ago; it is time to go and tell everyone.

Only through Him - by Deacon John (Saturday 4:30 PM )

The children - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

When it comes to being faith being nurtured in this place right along with those of us who are shall we say chronologically gifted, children are also nurtured here, nurtured in the faith, nurtured in the way of Jesus. And it is just so important for that nurturing in the way of Jesus to be a part of their life from the start of their life. A congregation that welcomes and fully embraces little ones is a gift to its community because just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a congregation to raise a disciple. Let us tell the world, "We are that congregation!"

Rituals? - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

"There is nothing outside a person that by going in can defile, but the things that come out are what defiles." Most people get heart checkup and start watching what goes into their mouth. Jesus recommends that we check out our hearts and then start watching what come out of them!

The miracle is that he chose us - by Pastor Stephen Bissong (Pastor Steve) (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

Jesus is the living bread that nourishes us in body and mind and spirit, the living bread that offers renewal for the times that we trip while on the journey, that locks us in his bosom when we are frightened or sad. We gather in this place over and over again to hear that message of amazing grace and in that way the spirit renews and deepens our trust that Jesus' way is the only way. We are here because Peter's words are ours as well, "Lord to whom else would we go? You have the words that bring wholeness and life and Holy purpose and that peace that passes understanding. We have come to know and believe you are the holy one of God. But praise God, long before we spoke those words and embraced them in our hearts, Jesus first and forever chose us and embraced us in his.

Living in a relationship with God - by Deacon John (Saturday 4:30 PM )

As we strive to live in a relationship with God, we must always remember and cling to the fact that Jesus gave his life so we could have eternal life. As a sacrifice for our sin so we might know the love of God which graces us as His redeemed children. We are united with Christ bgy believing in his death, the sacrifice of his flesh, and the resurrection and by devoting ourselves to living as he requires us to live, depending upon his teachings for guidance and trusting in the Holy Spirit for the power.

Faith, hope and mission - by Pastor Chuck (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

People need to know that Jesus changes everything. So for all of you at Hope I look forward to hearing your new story of faith and hope and mission that will come from this congregation in the future.

Living in Jesus - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

The recognition that we live in Jesus is both comforting and challenging. It's comforting because it means we don't have to do everything. When our personal lives are chaotic or disappointing, when our society is so polarized and violent, we remember that we live and move and have our being in Jesus. That is our context. It is a context of judgment but also of hope. It is a context in which we are expected to invite Jesus into our hearts and, as a result, to persevere or remain or abide in following his teachings and believing in his unique identity.

The little seed - by Deacon John (Saturday 4:30 PM )

We have to be that little tiny seed that will sprout and when we have a lot of little tiny seeds they grow and grow. They grow out here in the community, They grow when we walk outside. It grows when we call somebody up we haven't seen. It grows when somebody gets an encouraging word or just a hug. That's the little mustard seed we plant and God nourishes it and keeps it going.

God's gifts - by Pastor Chuck (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

Just celebrate all the gifts God has given you whatever those gifts may be, but remember the greatest gift you have is Jesus and when we come to the table for communion where in bread and in wine God gives to us the very body and blood of Jesus, it is a meal of forgiveness and strength and power and love. Then go forth fed and nourished and walk by God.

Don't be afraid! - by Deacon John (Saturday 4:30 PM )

So what happens in our lives when the storms come in? What happens in those times when we are trying to row to the other side and we are not getting anywhere? What happens is that Jesus not only feeds us literally and spiritually, but he also attends to us when we are in trouble like he attended to his disciples on the stormy lake. Eventually they got to the other side and eventually if we have God in our lives, when the storm comes up and the rocky waves start to pull us back and forth and in and out, we can turn to Jesus knowing that he is right there telling us, "Don't be afraid, it's me!."

Maybe we are the fringe - by Pastor Chuck (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

"If only we could touch the fringe of Jesus' robe we would be healed," said the crowd. Maybe you are the fringe on the robe of our savior. May people find you. And may they be loved by you, cared for by you, and healed.

The Rest Factor - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

A lot of us try to function without the Rest Factor that Jesus wants us to include in our lives. We're plenty busy, the results are disappointing. When we factor in some rest, some Sabbath time, we are not working as much, but what we do is more significant, more meaningful that it was when we were always on the go.

You can count on that day after day - by Pastor Chuck (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

When you talk to Jesus, you are talking to a friend and the person who write the hymn, "What a friend we have in Jesus," was not kidding. The person knew what they were talking about. God's grace, his unconditional love is sufficient for us and the power of Cgrist will be made perfect in us even in our human weakness.

Have we been rejected or embraced? - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

In my experience Jesus has taught me that there is grace to be found when I fail and am rejected. I now just let the rejections just roll off of my back. I continue to preach the Good News of Jesus. I continue to invite people to worship with me. Jesus is standing right next to me. He has known rejection and how it feels. And in Him I am whole.

We are people of God in Christ Jesus - by Pastor Chuck (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

As people of God we need to be out there in the world. We need to love and pray and work for the good of all peoples. Not just because we are the United States of America, but more importantly, because we belong to God in Christ Jesus.

He gives us new life - by Deacon John (Saturday 4:30 PM )

We have a new life in Jesus Christ. When we accept Jesus, when we trust in Jesus, when we look to Jesus for healing, he heals us. When we look to Jesus for new life, he gives us new life. Jesus reaches out to all of us. Jesus loves all of us. Jesus gives us new life and he gives us that new life by going to that cross, and by going to that grave, and by coming back and being resurrected.

Remember me - by Pastor Chuck (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

Do not remember Jesus just in church. Remember him when you go out into the world. Remember him when you are driving. Remember him when the storms of life come. He can still the storm. He is a good shepherd who is with you, for you, and knows every one of you by name. God knows you intimately and loves you just as you are..

He's got the whole world in his hands - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

Even if he doesn't wake up and quiet the storm, I'm safe with him. And if he does wake up and quiets the storm, he's probably going to say: "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" And I can live with that.

Jesus did not leave a list - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 PM )

For those of us who thrive on lists, who need "things to do" to establish some comfort level, this story of Jesus will not comply with our wishes. We will have to be willing to come along for the journey. We will just have to trust this Jesus and in the invitation to join him and to believe that in his company we will participate in the unfolding of the good news of God's kingdom among us in in our world.
