Difference in the wilderness - by Pastor Steve (Saturday 4:30 pm and Sunday 8 and 10 am)

The identity given to us in baptism is God's beloved child, holy and precious in God's sight, that we are gifted and guided by the Spirit always. And that makes all the difference in the wilderness.

Listen to Him - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

Moving through life can be challenging and terribly fearful. Life can drive us to the ground and so Jesus, who promises to be with us always to the end of the age still comes to us in those challenging fearful times with his healing touch and to say to us, "Be raised. Do not be afraid." Those are the words of the beloved Son of God. Listen to Him!

The touch of the hand of Jesus - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 pm)

People who reject the savior and refuse to obey his words have much to fear, but we who worship him and hear him have the words, "Do not be afraid. And later, "Where I am, there you will be also." That is the reassuring touch of the hand of Jesus.

But instead - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

Several of Luther's explanations of the Ten Commandments contain the two words, "but instead." Luther reasoned that if God is teaching us, for example, "not to diminish our neighbor's life in any way," then it just makes sense that God is instead wanting us improve, lift up, our neighbor's life in some way.

Jesus aims at our heart - by Deacon John (Saturday 4:30 pm)

As Jesus exposes sin – anger, lust, misusing God's name, etc. only His righteousness can cover us so that with a new heart and a new beginning we have a new life through our baptism and through the cross and through the blood of Jesus; we are made right with Jesus. Our hearts are loving, our hearts are open. Our hearts are no longer sinful. We have Jesus to thank for dying for those sins that come into our hearts. They are covered by our savior's blood.

You are the salt - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

Whatever you do in word or deed do everything in the name of Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him - a life seasoned with salt. You, says our Lord Jesus, are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world. May the spirit guide us in being what we are. Amen.

Come Lord Jesus - by Pastor Steve (Sunday 8 and 10 am)

Another way we can think about the nearness of God's reign and the blessing it offers is by remembering that God's crazy idea for how to go about being near with blessing is using us. For the people on Jesus' list, for the people that are in deep need, even though he did not name them, for us, in whatever way we find ourselves on that list, God draws near. God draws near through the Holy Spirit. God draws near by gathering, gifting and sending God's people, the church, to be blessing as faithfully and as fully as we possibly can. The creation will be complete and our work will be done. Come Lord Jesus.

How to be attitudes - by Deacon John (Saturday 4:30 pm)

For us, the Beatitudes are "how to be attitudes." They are our blessing for our neighbors and for our opponents and for ourselves. Because for those who are poor in spirit, have the kingdom of God. Those who are merciful and show mercy have the kingdom of God. Those who rejoice when persecuted have a great reward because Jesus guarantees it.

What is God calling you to do? - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 pm)

I don't have any answers for that. Perhaps it's to be as greatest student you can be, or to be the most loving spouse you can be or the most loving neighbor…the list would be endless So, do you run away, or do you do what you are called for? You can only run so long from God. Only you can answer that question.

Helping to find peace in God - by Pastor Steve (Saturday 4:30 pm; Sunday 8 and 10 am)

Knowing the anxiety and the restlessness and confusion that exist out in the world, we pray that our restless hearts will rest in God and know the blessings of the peace He gives us. We also pray God will help us to bring others into that same peace.

Christmas is a life to be lived - by Deacon Diane (Saturday 4:30 pm)

The Word became flesh and lived among us. The implications are profound. It changes how we see ourselves and one another, the way we live, our action, and our words. It means that Christmas cannot be limited to an event. Christmas is a life to be lived, a way of being. It means that Christmas is more properly understood as a very rather than a noun. So maybe should stop asking How was your Christmas? Instead we should be asking…How are you Christmassing? Are you recognizing the Word became flesh and will never cease living among us? So, make way. Wherever you go. Whatever you are doing. Whoever you are with. Make way for the image of God. Christmas your way through life.
